Our History
Origins & Early Settlement
Ekinrin-Adde traces its roots to the great Yoruba migration from Ile-Ife, the spiritual homeland of the Yoruba people. Our ancestors journeyed eastward, seeking fertile lands and new opportunities. They settled along the banks of the Niger confluence area in what is now Kogi State, establishing a community built on farming, fishing, and mutual cooperation. The name ‘Ekinrin-Adde’ reflects the deep connection to the land and the enduring spirit of those early pioneers.
- Today, Ekinrin-Adde thrives globally, united by shared heritage, innovation, and collective commitment to progress.
Growth & Cultural Development
Throughout the 1800s, Ekinrin-Adde flourished as a vibrant center of trade and cultural exchange. Positioned along important trade routes connecting northern and southern Nigeria, the community became a meeting point for diverse peoples and traditions. Extended family compounds grew into quarters, each with distinct identities yet united by common values. Traditional arts, music, and festivals developed, creating a rich cultural heritage that continues to define community celebrations today.
Traditional Leadership & Governance
The governance of Ekinrin-Adde has always centered on wisdom, consensus, and respect for elders. Traditional institutions, led by the Oba and council of chiefs, maintained order and preserved cultural practices across generations. Each quarter had representatives who participated in community decisions, ensuring all voices were heard. This system of inclusive leadership fostered unity during challenging times and guided the community through periods of significant change.
